[StartupDating vol.10] June 27: How Can Social Media Affect The Money Flow In Our Economy?

SHARE:

It was five years ago in San Francisco where a business called social lending was first ever appeared in the world.  When I heard that news, I just flied over to the city to interview the people who had started the business.

There used to be a rumor that several social lending services, such as Prosper, Zopa and Lending Club, would start their business here in Japan, but such things never happened. Reportedly it was due to Japan’s strict financial regulations.

When we start a new business, we may be forced to fight against bureaucrats for breaking preconceived notions, and in some cases, even for changing laws.

At the 10th edition of the Startup Dating event, we will proudly invite two guys from the Japanese social lending industry, Mr. Tadatoshi Senoo (Maneo) and Mr. Kazunori Ohmae (Aqush).  The both founded their social lending services a couple of years ago, and they have been looking around the industry since then.

The recent prosperity of social media contributes to inventing new fundraising options such as crowd funding or Kickstarter-like services. Our activities aim at achieving the start-up ecosystem through making more opportunities for entrepreneurs and system developers to meet.  In this edition, we focus on the ecosystem of money, to think about how the web industry and social media have changed the money flow in our economy and will change it from now on.

An application form for accepting your sign-up is not yet available.  We expect to make it open after those for the 9th edition are closed.
