Japanese nail art photo app lands key partnership to expand into China

SHARE:

Tokyo-based web and mobile app developer Yumemi announced today that it has partnered with Beijing-based Mojoy. The tie-up will help Yumemi expand its nail art photo app Nailbook to mainland China. Since the app’s launch back in April of 2011, it has acquired more than 700,000 downloads. It sees over 170,000 monthly active users, 50% from Japan and 30% from mainland China. Through the new partnership, Mojoy will localize the app to fit Chinese preferences, and they will also launch an offline-to-online service that brings customers into nail salons all across the country. The app is available only for the iOS platform in the Japanese market, but an Android version will launch in China later this month, considering that country’s relatively large Android user base. via MarkeZine

Nailbook helps women in Japan and beyond find nail design inspiration

SHARE:

In Japan, getting your nails done is a big part of fashion for women of all ages. But it can be tricky to find new designs on a regular basis. But there is an iPhone app called Nailbook that many women are turning to for nail design inspirations. Nailbook has been downloaded over 500,000 times as of July 21st of this year (see chart below). There are over 250,000 nail designs in the app with about 700 new photos added everyday. The application is used by people both here in Japan as well as overseas. In total, there are Nailbook users from more than 102 countries. You can follow other users you like, or favorite nail design photos for future reference. You can also upload recent nail designs of your own. Some professional nail artists even do this to promote their work. Finding the great designs on a platform like this is easy, as photos can be searched according to situation (i.e. Is it for work, or for an upcoming date?). A ranking feature showing the most popular and kawaii designs of the past week helps as well. Nailbook is available on iOS and on the web too.
